CFNC for 10th graders: Recently our 10th graders spent two days in the computer lab creating CFNC (College Foundation of North Carolina) accounts, completing career assessments that help match potential careers with one’s current interests and work value skills, and creating resume’s  that can be added to, changed, and tweaked as the years progress. To reinforce this information and perhaps to initiate a conversation with your child regarding their future high school courses, post-secondary options, and careers, ask  your child to show you his/her career portfolio with this information. A few 10th grade classes will be completing this task next week. Contact info: Joanne Gantt, Career Development Coordinator-560-3926 X23244

CFNC.org

As you know, families often feel overwhelmed with the prospect of paying for college. So, many jump at the chance when invited to a “free” college financing seminar, a “limited time only interview” or when services to find financial assistance are offered.

Unfortunately, some of these offers apply high-pressure sales tactics to get families to pay a fee for their “expert” assistance or even ask for bank account information to draft a “one-time fee for grants or scholarships.”  We’ve recently learned of an organization in the Triangle requiring students to pay a fee upfront for financial aid advice.

Families don’t need to pay for help with financial aid.  College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC) --the college access site that is a service of the State of North Carolina to help families plan, apply and pay for college –  makes financial aid resources available at no charge anytime and none of our State’s grants or scholarships require fees.
